VideoWhat Happened?
Pakistan launched a big attack on parts of Jammu and Kashmir just hours after its earlier attempt to hit 15 Indian cities failed. Border areas like RS Pura, Arnia, Samba, and Hiranagar are under heavy shelling. These areas have important military camps.
Jammu city is also under attack, with airstrikes reported. The Indian Air Defence system is active and intercepting missiles and drones. Videos from locals show bright lights in the sky, likely from the defence system taking out incoming threats.
Missiles Intercepted
Eight missiles were fired at Jammu and nearby border towns. All were stopped by Indian Air Defence forces.
Tension on the Ground
The air defence lights up the sky every few minutes. People on the ground are scared. With cellphone networks down, it’s even harder to reach out to loved ones.
Pakistani Jet Shot Down
India’s forces shot down a Pakistani F-16 fighter jet that had taken off from Sargodha air base. A surface-to-air missile system was used to take it down.
Pathankot Under Attack
Pathankot, a city in Punjab close to the border, also came under heavy fire. It’s an important military area and a key route to Jammu.
Blackouts in Many States
Blackouts have been declared in many border areas of Jammu & Kashmir, Punjab (including cities like Chandigarh, Mohali, Ferozepur, and Gurdaspur), and some parts of Rajasthan.
IPL Match Cancelled
The IPL match between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals in Dharamshala was stopped midway. The stadium was emptied, and lights were turned off for safety.
What Did the US Say?
India’s Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar spoke to the US Secretary of State, Marco Rubio. The US urged both countries to calm the situation and talk directly to avoid further conflict.
What Led to This?
This came after India’s “Operation Sindoor,” where Indian forces carried out targeted attacks on terrorist bases in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir. This was in response to a major terror attack on tourists in Pahalgam, Kashmir.
Earlier today, Pakistan tried to strike Indian military spots in 15 cities like Srinagar, Pathankot, Amritsar, Ludhiana, and Chandigarh — but India’s forces stopped them all.
India responded by hitting back at Pakistani air defence systems, including in Lahore. The government said it replied with equal force and will not escalate further — unless Pakistan does.
