New Delhi:
Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) chief Masood Azhar has claimed that 14 people, including 10 of his family members and four aides, were killed in Indian airstrikes under Operation Sindoor, launched in response to the recent terror attack in Pahalgam that killed 26 civilians.

According to a report by news agency PTI, the airstrikes targeted the JeM headquarters located at Jamia Masjid Subhan Allah in Bahawalpur, Pakistan. Azhar, who is listed as a global terrorist by the United Nations Security Council, said the victims included his elder sister, her husband, a nephew and his wife, a niece, and five children.
In a statement, Azhar described the deaths as a “blessing” and said the deceased were now “guests of Allah.” He added that he felt no regret or sorrow and wished he could have joined them. “Time for their departure had come, but the Lord did not kill them,” he said, while also inviting followers to funeral prayers.
Masood Azhar was arrested in India in 1994 and released in 1999 in exchange for passengers of the hijacked Indian Airlines flight IC 814. He has been linked to several major terror attacks in India, including the 2001 Parliament attack, the 2008 Mumbai attacks, the 2016 Pathankot airbase attack, and the 2019 Pulwama suicide bombing. Although widely believed to be living in Pakistan, Islamabad continues to deny his presence.
The Indian government confirmed that it carried out precision missile strikes on nine terror-linked locations in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir. According to sources, over 70 terrorists were killed and more than 60 injured in the strikes.
Officials said all targets were carefully selected based on intelligence and linked directly to terror activities. The operations were conducted at night to minimize civilian casualties. Despite this, some collateral damage occurred due to terror groups operating from populated areas.
“The nature of asymmetric warfare means that terrorists often hide in civilian zones,” a government source said. “Still, collateral damage was minimal due to precision weapons and timing.”
India accused Pakistan of exaggerating civilian casualties to draw international attention. Defence officials later released images showing that the damage was restricted to targeted compounds and not broader civilian areas.
